A Masculine and Feminine Birthday Card Using the Same Sketch

Marie Flayer, aka the New Jersey Stamping Queen, designs for Sunday Stamps, a challenge that alternates between sketch and color challenges, and this week it is her turn to create the sketch.

This is one of what I think of as "sampler" sketches that you can use to showcase several patterned papers in a pack without it being too busy and often easily use to make a masculine card.  This was exactly what I was planning to do using Close to My Heart's Pro Player pack when my husband came home from work and told me that his administrative assistant's birthday was the next day.  Did I have a card he could give her?  Now DH is very supportive of my habit hobby, so I like to keep him supplied with cards in order to keep that support.  That meant I needed to make a feminine version of this sketch using CTMH's new Balloon Ride pack:

I sponged all the edges with Saddle and used Brown and Tan Opaques (retired) to embellish.  The butterfly is a Martha Stewart punch, one of those things I never knew I needed until a friend loaned it to me at a crop.  I am sure that never happens to y'all!  I used the butterfly inside as well:

With that card done, I could proceed with my original plan to make a masculine card:

I find that I am liking the new Durable Triangle Studs.  I was not so sure at first, but unlike many embellishments, these work really well on guy cards.  The sentiment is a combination of "A Little Everything" and "Say It In Style," both retired.  Here is the inside:

There you are:  two takes on one sketch.  Thank you for stopping by!  Until next time, Hansi

Materials used, all Close to My Heart unless otherwise noted:
Paper:  Balloon Ride, Pro Player, Whisper, White Daisy, Colonial White, Cashmere cardstock
Ink:  Ruby, Saddle
Stamps:  Art Philosophy, Say It In Style (retired), A Little Everything (retired)
Embellishments:  Brown and Tan Opaques (retired), Durable Triangle Studs
Other:  Scallop Punch from ek Success, Butterfly Punch by Martha Stewart

  1. I love what you did with my Sunday Stamps sketch! Both of your cards are beautiful inside and out.. Don't you love how Close To My Heart offers paper packs with great coordinating colors and patterns? You really showcased them beautifully with this sketch. I love your choice of embellishments also--the feminine intricately cut butterfly and masculine durable studs. Thanks so much for playing along with us at Sunday Stamps this fortnight--please join us again soon!
