Father's Day 2021

 

Father's Day is bittersweet for me as Daddy passed in 2013, but there is another Daddy in my life, my husband, who is a devoted father to our grown daughter with special needs and gets card from me every year to show my appreciation for all he does.  This year's is based on this Freshly Made Sketch:

I started by smooshing Cracked Pistachio, Salvaged Patina, Peacock Feathers and Walnut Stain Distress Oxide inks onto a piece of cardstock for the strip and blending the same colors minus the Walnut Stain on a small piece that I cut using a stitched oval die from Stampin' Up.  While I was at it I cut two more ovals to stack for dimension and sponged some Salty Ocean ink around the edge.  The dad cat was cut with a die by Spellbinders and the kitten with one by Obsession Impression from bronze metallic paper I bought in an assortment pack years ago at Michael's.  It doesn't show that the bronze paper and the pearl paper I used for the hearts has a nice shimmer.  I used a colored pencil to make a bit of a shadow below the kitties to ground them.  Did I mention that my husband is also daddy to two spoiled cats?  I stamped a sentiment from Close to My Heart's Say It in Style set in Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink and heat embossed it with Clear Detail powder from Ranger.

I also plan to enter this card in the Male Room Dads and Grandads, Crafty Gals Corner One for the Boys, and Stinkin Inkers You're the Man challenges.

Father's Day Cats 2019

This Father's Day card from our two and four legged daughters is based on this Freshly Made Sketch:

I started with a 4.25 x 5.5 inch piece of white cardstock and applied Candied Apple, Ripe Crimson, and Dried Marigold Distress Oxide inks, blending until I was happy with the result.  While I had the ink out I covered a small piece with Candied Apple, so I could have matching sentiment strips.  I cut the large cat using Close to My Heart's Artistry Cricut cartridge, the medium cat using a die from Spellbinder's Kitty Cats die set, and the little cats using Impression Obsession's Cat Set.  Then I heat embossed them with three coats of clear detail powder.  The sentiment was stamped with an old Close to My Heart set, Say It in Style using Black Versafine ink, heat embossed with clear detail powder and attached with foam tape.  The finishing touches were cut from Stampin' Up's Grapefruit Grove foil paper which has a hologram effect to it.

Father Daughter Card

The theme of one of the Heart 2 Heart challenges for August is "Boys Will Be Boys."  Yes, boys will be boys, then they grow to be men, and sometimes they become fathers.  My husband is the best father you could ask for, and I make it a point to let him know this on a regular basis.  This card is an example of thinking beyond the theme of a paper pack.  These papers, which work beautifully for a summer theme come from "Chalk It Up," Close to My Heart's back to school paper pack from last year.  The sentiment was snipped from a zip strip from last year's Seaside pack.  I popped up both the sentiment and the background panel to give the card a little bit more dimension.

The Father's Day Card That Almost Wasn't



As my daughter played with the Photo Booth app on my iPad, I knew I was going to use one of the thermal images for her Father's Day card.  Did I print one then?  Of course not!  I had no idea that the storm Thursday would knock out our power and cable service and that when the power was restored Friday, that we would still not have cable.  This meant no internet which meant no printing off the iPad because using the internet to access our wireless printer is the only way I know how to print off the iPad.  Fortunately, the cable guy came today and Tim and our daughter spent the afternoon at the Diamond rooting the Richmond Flying Squirrels, their favorite father daughter bonding activity, which gave me a chance to get to work using the layout from Unscripted Sketches:



I swiped all the paper edges with Outdoor Denim, sponged over the embossing with Outdoor Denim dye ink and Pear pigment ink, and sponged the sentiment edges with Outdoor Denim to make it stand out.  The white panel, gears and heart which is coated with liquid glass are popped up with foam tape.  I got it finished with about an hour to spare.

 

As I mentioned in my last post, the theme this week over at Heart 2 Heart is Tool Time which can mean tools or people who use tools (like a father, perhaps) so I plan on entering this card in that challenge as well.  Thank you for stopping by!  Until next time, Hansi
